By the 21st September 1940 Brindlers
had raised £218.00, with the Rev.
& Mrs. Povery contributing £2.10s.0d
(£2.50); a week later the figure
had reached £240.6s.8d). By the
12th October £270.15s.8d had been
raised with the children at St.
Joseph’s School contributing £1.00
and a similar amount from the St.
James’ Guides and Brownies. A Whist
Drive, held soon after, raised £7.0s.7d.

£540.15s.0d was raised for ‘Chorley
Weapons Week’.
February 1942 - £2,306.7s.0d
was raised by the School’s National
Savings Association during ‘Chorley
Warship Week’.
June 1943 – Total in the
‘Wings for Victory Week’ was £1,438.10s.0d.
May 1944 – The total for
‘Salute the Soldier Week’ amounted
to £1,832.18s.0d.
November 1945 – ‘National
Savings Thanksgiving Week’, the
School took £2,079.10s.0d in Defence
Bonds and Savings Certificates.
