“Brindle As I Remember It” by Harold Baxendale - Harold lived with his parents at the Cavendish Arms in Brindle during the early days of World War Two, before joining the Royal Navy in September 1942.

“Over the Five Barred Gate” by George Birtle – Has references to Hoghton Tower in Civil War times and to the V1 bomb that hit Brindle on Christmas Day morning, 1944.

“The Heart of the Village - The Story of Brindle St. James’ School, Founded in 1624” by Ralph & Wal McMullen – one chapter records life at the School during World War Two.

“A Sexton’s daughter comes home” by Teresa Travis (Edited by Anne Bradley) – Teresa lived on Private Road in Brindle and worshipped at St. Joseph’s Church in the village. There are references to Dover Lane Camp in World War Two, as well as memories by Robert Travis of his time in the Fleet Air Arm during WW2.
